Elephant Walk, Boston

French Cambodian may sound like cuisine at odds but believe me this is an unforgettable combination. The French occupation of Cambodia resulted in a cuisine with a distinctive taste. EW is just off the St. Mary's T-Stop and they have valet parking. It is also a short 10 minute walk from Kenmore square.

The restaurant was recently remodeled after a small fire that closed the location for a few months. It looks and feels like an estate house and the best seating is out on the porch facing the street.

EW's menu is extensive with sections for French & Cambodian. Be sure to try the appetizers. EW also has a pre-fixe tasting menu available. In my opinion to taste the best EW has to offer stay away from entrees that sound like ones you have had at other restaurants. ie. Burger, steak or salmon. As you read the menu remember at EW the more exotic the better. The blend of fresh ingredients, spices and EW's use of fruit and vegetables not found at your local supermarket will provide a more authentic and delicious experience.

Here are a couple choices that show off EW's best tastes. Nataing- pork simmered in coconut milk with sliced garlic, curshed peanuts and chili pods all served with crispy jasmine rice for dipping; Amok Royal - seafood in coconut milk and Kmer seasonings steamed in a banana leaf; Curry de Crevettes - curry with shrimp, asparagus, bok choy, eggplant, etc.; and my favorite the Canard a l'Orange - roast duckling with orange sauce. For dessert, EW's fruit sauces help make your outing a memorable one.

Portions are moderate and prices are under $30. Valet parking is available and is a steal if going to a Red Sox game.
