That is $12 for two at Taiwan Cafe in Boston. 34 Oxford St at Beach street steps after the Boston Chinatown arches. TC is an authentic Taiwanese restaurant with an extensive menu and more dishes on the wall written on sheets of paper.
There are many good dishes here but the value meals are their rice plates. On a good day they come with a bottomless cup of tea, bowl of seaweed soup and your entree. The entree includes a huge heap of white rice, pickled radish, boiled egg and your entree choice.
Our favorites are the House Special Pork Chop and Chrispy Quarter Chicken. If you like salt-pepper squid, TC's platter is very good, served with garlic and minced chili peppers.
The spinach, bean stems and hot pot are also tasty choices.
The rice plates are just over $5 so you and a date will can get out for $12 and head for the movies.
Give Taiwan Cafe a try and you will have your favorites before you know it.
